Overseas Trainees
HMEC makes sure that international trainees are supported throughout their whole learning experience. This includes providing information for prospective students such as the application process, student visas and scholarships.
When you’re here, you will have a support system to welcome you and
help you settle in.
We also welcome Doctors who are looking to undertake a Clinical Attachment for a set period to observe and gain experience of the NHS.
HMEC makes sure that international trainees are supported throughout their

for Doctors that are new to the NHS and living in the UK. You will have a support system to welcome you and help you settle in.
We also welcome Doctors who are looking to undertake a Clinical Attachment for
a set period to observe and gain experience of the NHS.

Clinical Attachments are placements that allow overseas Medical/Dental Graduates the opportunity to observe clinical practice in the United Kingdom.
During the clinical attachment, Doctors/Dentists can shadow and learn in an observational capacity only, and are not permitted to initiate or modify the treatment of a patient. Clinical Attachments can be from 4 weeks to 6 months long, and there is a policy in place to support these.
The Doctor/Dentist will be attached to a clinical department under the supervision of a named Consultant, in order to gain an overview of medical/dental procedures and systems in the UK and specifically within the NHS.
There is a charge of £300 per attachment, plus additional fees for a DBS Check and Occupational Health Appointment (if these are required).
To Apply for an observational Clinical Attachment within the Trust, please send the following documents to;

you must provide a Certificate of Good Standing/PCC, issued by your Country of Residence only. Certificates from your Medical Council will not be accepted.
Please note that Clinical Attachments can take up to 8 weeks from the date of HUTH receiving the application form to arrange. Please factor this in when noting down your preferred start date.
